Design Muscat is a platform to share meaningful stories with new audiences. Partners create the foundation of the symposium by connecting the city with various staged activities, including presentations, workshops, talks and more. The symposium’s unique offering brings together a diverse range of creative practices in Oman. Speakers from all corners of the regional and international design community will share new perspectives on how design can preserve national identity through innovation. The sessions will be hosted at the Scientific College of Design in Muscat.
The Scientific College of Design is established upon the firm belief in and strong advocacy of the role of the arts as an agent of progressive change, and as a powerful catalyst in shaping the thoughts and actions of our national and global communities.
Creative entrepreneurship, when combined with sustainability principles, aims to create businesses that are not only profitable but also contribute to a better world. Creative entrepreneurship plays a vital role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by developing innovative solutions and products while minimizing social and environmental impacts, and maximizing the quality of life.
How do we innovate towards a more intelligent urban future by embedding sustainability principles and leveraging heritage, culture and creativity?
Cultural tourism is being transformed by the integration of art, design, and AI. Cultural heritage that is carefully managed attracts tourism investment in a sustainable way, involving local communities without damaging heritage areas. This theme will explore the impact of the creative industries on enhancing touristic areas.
By thoughtfully incorporating AI into our design practice and continuously evolving our understanding of simplicity, we can create a future where design and AI work in harmony to solve complex problems and enhance human experiences in ways we have yet to imagine.
As the digital era unfolds, a new chapter is being written: AI for storytelling. This isn’t about replacing human creativity but enhancing it—giving a new generation of artists and designers tools to increase creativity, efficiency, and impact. And enabling them to articulate identities, preserve heritage, and drive social change.
The symposium allows participation through the following formats:
Presentation / Panel: A formal 15-minute presentation identifying key research findings followed by a panel discussion. The paper will be published after a double-blind review of the full paper submitted.
Workshop: A 1 or 2-hour hands-on workshop covering a specific DM theme. Leaders need to identify the material list and required studio/lab.
Talk: A 15-minute interactive presentation covering a DM theme, followed by a 10- minute Q&A session.
